there is no us

Roots Circus

Never saw the hand that struck me down
Never heard the gun go off
I couldn't see the storm clouds building up
Until they bore down on me

Now I'm standing in a hurricane
Now I face the bleeding sky
While the rain turns to a crashing flood
A tidal wave of lies

For a moment I thought of you
And what I should do
To get over you

For a moment I thought of us
But there is no us
No there never was

For a moment I thought of you
And what I should do
To get over you

For a moment I thought of us
But there is no us
No there never was

Maybe all of this was destiny
Maybe all was ment to be
But it's still your face I'm looking for
Everywhere that I go

Now I tell myself I'm safe from harm
I say that the storm has passed
Then I go and act a fool again
And we are right back where we began

Maybe I knew just what I was
Getting into and built my own walls
Maybe I knew and maybe it's true
But I'm damned no matter what I do
